The SCC Explorer Platform is an interactive platform on the history of the Congregation of the Council in which the results of several years of research on this dicastery are condensed. Our research has been developed in the context of the Max Planck Research Group Governance of the Universal Church after the Council of Trent (2015-2021, financed by the Max Planck Society), and continued in the research group Normative knowledge in the praxis of the Congregation of the Council (since 2022), both active at the Max Planck Institute for Legal History and Legal Theory.
The Platform has been realised thanks to the contribution of numerous institutions and persons who have shared their brilliant ideas, research experience and professional expertise in various branches of knowledge. On this page, you will find information on all the members of the group and their various contributions. To present everyone's work in a comprehensive way we have used the Contributos Roles Taxonomy (CRediT) developed to represent the roles typically played by contributors to research projects and which allows us accurately describe the specific contribution of each participant to the research results.
The Max Planck Institute for Legal History and Legal Theory supported our research in various ways. Indeed, since 2013, the project leader has conducted systematic research on the Congregation of the Council within the framework of her work as a researcher at the Institute, and since 2022, the research group has enjoyed direct funding from the Institute. The Institute has also been a valuable encounter and discussion place for all group members for the development of the project's research lines and for their professional development. For the realisation of the SCC Explorer Platform, the discussion and collaboration within other Digital Humanities activities and projects at the Institute was of great value.
For the SCC Positiones Explorer, the SCC Libri Decretorum Explorer and the SCC Timeline Explorer projects, the research team enjoyed a fruitful collaboration with the Vatican Apostolic Archive, which began in 2013 and focused on the inventorying of the positiones and the digitalization and metadatation of the Libri Decretorum of the Congregation of the Council.
